Suspended Boat Pose Using a Yoga Strap
Two variations of boat pose are shown here both using a D Ring yoga strap, one is with using 4" yoga blocks and a strap. Suspended boat or floating boat builds your core strength when practiced correctly. Press out evenly through the feet, push the floor away from you and endeavor to bring even tone into the entire body as you float up. Please bring all your yogic skills of loving kindness, patience and a positive frame of mind when practicing.

I want to buy a yoga strap for simple stretches. What is the difference between using 6, 8, or 10 foot straps? If you're only using it for simple stretches, the 6 foot one should be fine. It compensates for tight hips, shoulders and ham strings while keeping your body in correct form like in bound poses if your hands do not reach each other, and for poses where you need to hold onto your feet but cannot reach them so a 6 foot one will be ok. If you are doing restorative yoga though, I would get a longer strap because the 6 foot one is just not long enough for the reclining cobbler's pose(I learned the hard way on that one). I use mine mostly for dancer pose and cow-face pose as my shoulders can be tight and also when I lay on the floor and pull my foot towards my head and I'm tall but a 6 foot one is all I need for those poses.. Lots of people use them for the seated forward bend as well. Hope that helps!
