which is the best yoga maganize?Won't claim to know what is the best, tho I share your observation about advertising in YJ. I suppose it helps keep subscription rate from being higher.

Other than YJ, following are some other periodicals I've come across.

Fit Yoga
http://www.fityoga.com/html/
Sister publication to Fit magazine, thus essentially is Fit magazine targeted at Hatha yoga. Have seen several issues; fairly similar to YJ in content, layout, advertising.

Yoga + Joyful Living (formerly Yoga International)
http://www.himalayaninstitute.org/Yogaplus/Default.aspx
Also have seen several issues; somewhat similar to YJ.

LA Yoga
http://layogamagazine.com/content/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1
Have only seen on line references.

Yoga Magazine
http://www.yogamagazine.co.uk/
Published in UK. Have seen one issue. Could perhaps characterize as a European YJ.

Ascent
http://www.ascentmagazine.com/toc2008.aspx?issueID=38&page=read&subpage=current
Canadian published, non-profit quarterly.
Inspired by the late Swami Radha, founder of Yasodhara Ashram in British Columbia (which have had fortune to visit casually).
Far fewer ads, articles seemed to tend towards greater emphasis on thought and spirituality than on specific asanas or individual styles of contemporary Hatha yoga.

Namarupa
http://www.namarupa.org/docs/vision_home.php
Another non-profit quarterly.
Have subscribed in past. Articles also emphasize spirituality and thought as opposed to asana. If you also enjoy images of Indian people and places, with if I recall correctly, no advertising, you will perhaps enjoy.

Namaste',
dwbI love yoga journal, but I also enjoy Yoga + (Yoga Plus) which is also a very good yoga magazine.
