PLEASE HELP me figure out In between the Anusara and Iyengar, which yoga is best if I really need to de-stress?Try different types of yoga, so you can see which one suits you best. There are usually some special rates for new students at yoga studios, so people can try different classes. I would suggest trying Ashtanga as well as Iyengar and Anusara.

I think yoga can really help you to deal with stress.

Good Luck : )I would offer opinion that in regards to de-stressing, the individual style of Hatha yoga you choose is minor compared with the "mindfulness" you apply to your personal practice of asana (yoga poses).

Hatha yoga certainly does not have any special "lock" on de-stressing.
There are all sorts of relaxation techniques other than yoga, ranging from any sustained physical exercise you enjoy, to Tai Chi, and many types of meditation, etc.

Any activity you do where you practice a mental discipline of mindfulness (keeping the mind present in the moment; not wandering into entertaining thoughts about past or future), I believe you will find very de-stressing.

If you still feel some style of Hatha yoga is what you seek, I would suggest finding a yoga teacher (any style) who maintains a regular (daily) meditation practice.

In regards to "keeping in shape," the instructor is a big factor, but generally styles such as Iyengar and Anusara are not as vigorous as styles such as Astanga, or varieties of "power" yoga.

Namaste',
dwbHello!

I hope this "answer" finds you well and serves to further you down your path.

I am a certified Anusara yoga teacher, so I am writing from my perspective.

It just so happens that just today John Friend, founder of Anusara yoga posted a blog in which he addresses your question.

These are John's words: [Please note: John continues to honor and pay respect to Mr. Iyengar]
"Yes, there are many similarities between Iyengar Yoga and Anusara yoga in terms of asana sequencing, emphasis on precise postural alignment, and discipline as a basis of studentship. Yet, the truth is that Anusara yoga differs in two fundamental and significant ways from Iyengar yoga. Anusara yoga is based on Shiva-Shakti Tantric philosophy, while Iyengar yoga is based essentially on Classical Yoga (Patanjali Yoga Sutra). Tantra focuses on removing the differences between the world and Spirit, while Classical Yoga tries to separate Spirit and the world. Secondly, Anusara yoga uses principles of alignment universally as the basis of aligning the asanas, while Iyengar yoga uses discrete, separate alignment points for each asana. In terms of fundamental philosophy and key methodology, Anusara yoga and Iyengar Yoga are distinctly different."

You can find out a lot about Anusara yoga at their website: http://www.anusara.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=73. You can also find local teachers or DVDs on the website.

Hope that helps you get started...

With love,

Katrina
