Are classes necessary for yoga to be effective?

Are classes necessary for yoga to be effective?I suppose a lot would depend on what effect you're interested in. Relaxation, stretching, strength, balance, etc. There are plenty of good, inexpensive resources out there. As long as you follow what it says it will work.ok the point of a class is to make sure your doing it right, and shows how to do it, and also theirs a visual aid to help, in a book or online, it sometimes won't make sense some of it, and you wont be able to tell if your doing it wrong, but the young adult you are(lol i had to use it my teacher tells me all the time) you make the decision Yes you can practice yoga through books, cds dvds...etc. Why not?!!
I myself practice it at home in my own privacy. And I do very well.
This free yoga e-course will help you, with exercises, their benefits and breathing techniques: http://www.yoga-health-beauty-energy.com/It's not necessary to go to classes, and I've found that a few classes I attended the instructor did not go out of her way to make sure we in the class had correct form. It is very beneficial if you do have an instructor who is aware of your form and can help you to correct it, or at least will give clear instruction so you can feel whether your form is correct or not.
I didn't take classes until I'd been doing yoga for a year.

I found this wonderful website with free 1hr classes, and many to choose from each week. There are three different instructors, and each class is very different, so you don't have your yoga getting "stale" on you.
It's completely free, and they never charge you anything. The instructors are professional and very descriptive so you can follow along. Every once in a while I have had to stop the video and back up to make sure I understand what they are telling me to do correctly, but most of the time it's very clear.
You will learn very much about alignment if you follow their videos often.

The site offers several yoga styles, including hatha, vinyasa, kundalini, and ashtanga. You can get experience in all of them and decide which you like best using these videos. I just use them all. ;)

Good luck!
